Polyurethane Foam

Polyurethane foam roofs need to be coated to avoid UV degradation.
Our elastomeric products are an ideal coating solution.

Sprayed-in-place polyurethane foam has been used in roofing applications for many years. Specifically designed to add insulation value to roof structures, the foam also requires a protective coating as foam cannot be left unprotected from the UV rays of the sun. Polyurethane foam roofing, when properly applied, can provide years of excellent roof protection with additional insulative value. If left to the inexperienced, however, a true nightmare can develop. Foam must be mixed properly at application and applied exactly to manufacturer’s specifications eliminating defects in the foam as it must be close to an "orange peel" texture after it is applied. Proper drainage with no low spots will also indicate good installation. Most importantly, a high quality coating must be applied shortly after installation to protect the foam from breaking down. Failure of this type of system is indicated by the coating weathering away, chalking, flaking or peeling. If left uncoated, the foam begins to deteriorate and becomes friable and "dust-like" with an "orangish" color. The foam itself is rigid and not very expandable. The coating is essential for protection and system longevity.

Uniflex manufactures several coating options designed to protect both new foam and existing foam installations. Uniflex offers a free comprehensive roof inspection to determine the proper coating to be recommended. Compatibility of coating is imperative to long-term performance.
